American firm Waymo has revealed that its autonomous vehicles will be available for booking on London's roads beginning next year.

The UK capital will become the pioneering European city to launch an autonomous taxi service, akin to those currently operational in multiple US cities and several American locations employing Waymo's innovative systems.
Initial Testing Phase to Start with Human Specialists.
Waymo announced that its vehicles are currently traveling to London and will begin navigating on the capital's streets in the near future with safety drivers behind the wheel.
Waymo – originally established as a offshoot from Google's self-driving car project and part of the Alphabet family – explained it would increase operations and work closely with the UK transport authorities and the city's mobility organization to obtain the essential licenses to deliver totally self-driving trips by 2026.
Growing Involvement in Self-Driving Transport In London.
Additional firms, including Uber and the UK-based technology firm Wayve, have also announced their own plans to test self-driving cabs in the capital next year.
This follows the UK authorities announcing it would accelerate regulations allowing real-world tests to proceed before laws enabling self-driving vehicles passes in full.

“Supporting the AV industry will enhance available mobility choices while also creating employment, funding, and prospects to the UK. Advanced funding like this will help us deliver our mission to be international frontrunners in advanced innovation and spearhead countrywide development.”
Full Introduction Expected After Regulatory Framework Is Enforced.
A fuller rollout of autonomous cabs is anticipated in the UK after the Automated Vehicles Act is fully implemented in late 2027.
Waymo's Current Presence in the UK and Beyond.
Waymo currently has connections to Britain after opening its pioneering European technical center in Oxford in 2019.
The company is also starting offerings in Tokyo using Jaguar Land Rover eco-friendly cars, marking its only other present project beyond the US.
“We've demonstrated how to effectively grow fully autonomous ride-hailing, and we can’t wait to expand the positive impacts of our platform to the UK,” stated Waymo's co-chief executive, explaining that the technology was “improving road safety and transportation more inclusive”.

Waymo began its driverless vehicles in 2020 and now claims it has carried more than a vast number of customers in the US.
Despite some alarming incidents, Waymo stated that statistics showed that vehicles controlled by drivers were involved in incidents that harmed walkers significantly more frequently than its self-driving vehicles.
