Courageous Train Employee Suffers Severe Injuries Amid Multiple Knife Incident on Express Service

A valiant train employee who stepped in to save travelers during a multiple knife attack on a high-speed train has sustained critical wounds, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

Details of the Terrifying Event

CCTV video reportedly depicts the staff member trying to stop the assailant as the train traveled between a city and Huntingdon in the county. Bystanders described a terrifying 14-minute period after the train left Peterborough, with injured passengers fleeing through carriages.

The individual, a 32-year-old British national from Peterborough, remains in custody for interrogation. Authorities announced a major incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in downtown London.

Emergency Response and Consequences

The event on Saturday night resulted in 11 people being cared for in medical facilities after the train made an unplanned stop at platform 2 in Huntingdon. Several people have since been released from medical care.

A witness filmed the individual brandishing a large knife and being shot with a Taser as he confronted officers on the station. He was reportedly heard shouting, "Kill me, end my life."

“This was a horrific attack that has had a wide impact. We are thinking of the victims and their families – particularly the courageous member of train personnel whose relatives are being supported by specialist personnel,” stated a senior police official.

Labor Reaction and Calls for Action

Rail associations were swift to praise staff and demand more action. One union official said he would be “requesting immediate discussions with authorities, train companies and law enforcement to guarantee that we have the strongest available support, tools and effective protocols in operation”.

Another association representative encouraged the rail company and authorities “to act swiftly to examine security, to help the impacted employees, and to make sure nothing like this happens again”.

Driver Praised for Rapid Action

The operator who halted the train at Huntingdon was reported as being “deeply affected” but “well”, and has been commended by union representatives for doing “precisely what was needed”.

“The driver did not halt the train in the middle of two stations where it’s obviously difficult for the emergency services to reach, but he continued going until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the assistance was pretty much waiting,” stated a association official.

Additional Information

Police said they received the initial distress reports at 7:39 pm, and the train was compelled to make an unplanned stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

An observer recounted at first thinking if the event was a Halloween joke, but soon understood from individuals' expressions that it was real.

Police have confirmed there is no evidence to indicate the incident was a terror-related incident and have requested the community to come forward with any additional information.

Rail services on the impacted line are anticipated to have delays until Monday, with travelers recommended to defer their travel where feasible.

Anyone with details that could assist the inquiry are encouraged to reach police by texting a specific number with a case code.
